Scarborough - Vikings
By Craig Bone
Vikings got a great win on the road against a good Withernsea team.
Both sides wanted to play open rugby from the offset, Scarborough gaining the upper hand again in the set piece especially in the line outs.
Scarborough struck from the off with a couple of quick tries within the first 10 minutes. Connor Ward and Alex Rowley dictated play from start to finish.
Withernsea then got a quick runaway try from nothing 14-7. Captain Rossol scores again for the Vikings converted by Rowley. Scarborough playing up the hill, facing the sun with the wind in their faces now really getting on top of the Withernsea pack. Ireland, Emsley and Fish holding the scrum very solid, Readman and Rennard in the boiler room not budging and winning lineout ball at will.
Scarborough took the foot of the gas and let Withernsea in again. Scarborough got back on top with a try from Mikey Readman converted by Rowley – finished the first half 28-14
Scarborough got out of the blocks quicker with another try from Rossol. Withernsea threw caution to the wind and scored a couple of long distance individual tries.
Scarborough, through Rossol and Ward, sent in Tom Anderson for his second try.
Withernsea scored in the last seconds to flatter their score line.
Scarborough were the better side over the 80 minutes.
Great performance on the road from the Vikings this week, lead by Rossol from the mid-field, shaded again by MOM Holloway who were both immense in attack and defence.
Tom Anderson took his two tries brilliantly, excellent finishing.
Back row lead by Holloway, Davies and Else, where a constant nuisance to Withernsea all afternoon.
Back three of Constine, Monsey and Anderson were rock solid all game.
Manager Bone was again proud of the attitude of the young lads’ game management.
Roll on BP at home next week.
