Scarborough - Vikings
By Craig Bone
Vikings travelled to the Metropolis of Hull playing Marist.
With a strong starting XV and the impact from the bench, the Vikings felt confident of a good result.
A good start was required as the last couple of weeks we have been very slow in getting into the game, same again – Marist scored after 1 minute.
Great reply by Craig Fairbairn and converted by Phil Stewart 7-5. Vikings then missed tackles cost the them dearly with 3 more Marist tries giving them a lead at half time of 22-7.
Captain Rossol gave one of his looks in the huddle at half time. Vikings had to dig deep- the pack now getting on top with man of the match Tom Read, playing his best game of the season giving the Vikings the go forward with Rennard, Emsley, Hutchinson, Dean, Fish doing the unforeseen work.
Change in personal at half time giving us fresh impetus; Tristan Else and General Stewart finding gaps, kicks a penalty. Connor Ward, following up namesake Lewis, and going 60 yards – scored a great try; 25-17 to Marist.
Two finisher tries from Tom Anderson gave Vikings a glimmer of a comeback but the game ended 37-32 to Marist, another game of off-your-seat Rugby – the game was end to end.
If the Vikings could start the first half like they finish the game we would be top of the table and out of sight.
Amazing heart again and never say die attitude.
