Scarborough - Vikings
By Craig Bone
Top of the table merit league game Scarborough Vikings v Malton.
First twenty minutes where very much an arm wrestle, neither side making any unforced errors.
Until Connor Ward, from nowhere 60 metres out, used the blind side to make a break that saw Jack Anderson in support to score under the posts – converted by Rowley 7-0 to Scarborough.
Malton starting to get some phases of play together gaining some good ground scored in the corner 7-5 at half time.
Malton started the second half very well putting some good phases together again, but just kept getting knocked by Holloway, Emsley, Rennard Leah, Hutchinson.
Malton tried to go wide, with Parker and Rossol waiting with Cheshire-like cats smiles, until Malton broke on the right hand side and scored making it 10-7 in favour of Malton.
Like every week the Vikings set piece was magnificent, no quarter given from the Vikings front five, joined now by Readman, kept pushing against a hard-walled Malton defence but a deft chip from skipper Rossol put Tom Anderson over for a try in the corner, unconverted. 12-10 to the Vikings, 10 minutes to go – this was going to see if the Vikings could hold their nerve and discipline and see the game out, well we did.
Magnificent effort from every one of the Vikings, great discipline again, all 18 players had a right to man of the match but James Emsley got the nod for his tireless effort again in 3 different positions.
