Scarborough - Vikings
By Craig Bone
Vikings travelling to Goole has not been, in recent years, a happy hunting ground.
Vikings started the better of the two, as always, well matched sides.
A great break from Will Rennard had James Emsley on his shoulder to score under the posts, converted by Captain Tom Read. Goole conceded a penalty which Tom Read converted to give a 10 nil to the Vikings. Two very good defences both knocking each other back time after time, when stand-off Craig Fairbairn found a slight gap to go through under the posts converted by Tom Read giving a 17-0 lead. Goole then got some momentum and a scored try on half time from their scrum half giving the half time score 17-7.
Goole got some clean ball from the lineout with the young fly half gliding through from the half way line to score. Game on. Fifteen minutes later a try made from nothing giving Andy Rossol a bit to do to score. Again converted by Tom Read.
A lot of tired bodies from either side, both sides bolstered by their respective 3rd teams who played each other before this game.
Scarborough hung on to a great win the final score 24-14
Fantastic game of rugby from two very evenly matched sides.
Some great performances right across the field a real team effort. Lewis Cowlishaw and Fairbairn controlled both the attack and defence. Alex Hird, Will Rennard, Josh Broadhead, James Emsley, Tom Fish for doing the unseen work. Matty Ward, Sam Else, Aaron Helms, Finlay Dennis playing a full game then playing 1/2 a game for the Vikings, thank you.
Man of the match was Andy Rossol who was brilliant especially playing out of position
A big thank you for all the players and support staff of Goole Rugby club for making a cracking day I believe had by all.
