Two Projects at Scarborough Rugby Club

In the next couple of months Scarborough RUFC are working on two big projects at Club. Firstly, the Club, in conjunction with Skipton Building Society, Scarborough Youth Development Officer Matty Jones, the RFU and the Enterprise Education Trust are working together on a project called 'Change for Good'

This scheme is linked with the Scarborugh Pupil Referral Unit (PRU), where pupils who are at risk of exclusion from their mainstream schools and sometimes do not fit into school structures are sent to the Scarborough PRU where they are monitored closely by a individual teacher. The project is aiming to work with around a dozen boys and girls who fit the criteria.

They will all be coming to the rugby club for an 8 week programme involving 45mins outside contact rugby training with the Scarborough and Malton YDO's Matty Jones and Dan Coates plus 45mins inside each day doing classroom work where they will go through a range of modules that have been provided by the Enterprise Education Trust. Modules range from problem solving, conflict resolutions through to interviewing systems.

At the end of the programme the pupils will get the chance to go to an Army Assualt course and be through their paces from some of the Army Personal Trainiers. On the 8th week we will be holding a graduation ceremony where a few business people from the Scarborough area will come and offer the pupils the chance to join there recruitment services.

Our next project running at the Club is a disabilty tag rugby day. This will be held on Thursday May 6th and schools from the East Yorkshire region will come to Scarborough to participate in a festival of Tag Rugby. Tag Rugby is thenon-contact version of rugby that minis (Children under 7) play on Sunday mornings.

Skipton Building Society are sponsoring Scarborough's YDO Matty Jones who is already working closely with Springhead Disability School in the club's sports hall on a 4 week programme leading up to the festival. He will also be working with Grant Lenton of Woodlands School and Ben Noble who is organising the day. It is a great festival for the club to be hosting and we are looking forward to the sessions with the schools leading up to the festival day.

If you would like any more information on either of the two projects you can contact Matty Jones on 07515 405754
