Our 'Green' Credentials                  recycle

At Scarborough Rugby Club we recognise the need to protect and maintain the environment for the future. Our objective is to minimise our negative impacts through careful management of our environmental risks and by promoting awareness to all of our employees.

Recycling

At present Scarborough Rugby Club's aim is to recycle as much as possible and to reduce the amount that is sent to landfill sites. Our target is to recycle 50% of all our general waste by the end of 2012

Electricity

We have installed PIRs (Passive Infra-Red Movement Sensors) throughout the building to control lighting when rooms are not in use. We have installed movement sensors for lighting when rooms are not used. We are in the process of replacing our halogen spot lights with super-efficient LED lights reducing energy consumption by over 80% in this area. Many appliances are fitted with time-clocks so as to turn off when not required

Gas/Heating

The building heating system incorporates thermostatically controlled under-floor heating which is set into various zones so that only areas requiring heat are turned on.

Water Recycling

We have a grey-water collection system which collects rain water from the roofs of the main buidling to supply water for the toilets. We are investigating the costs of installing a bore hole to supply water for our irrigation needs which could save the Club over £4000 in water costs.

Waste Management

We recycle paper, cardboard, plastic, aluminium cans, glass, batteries, drink cups and all confidential waste. We have removed paper hand towels from the most of the toilets and replaced them with electric hand-driers.
